Postponed: CARIFTA Chess Championships 2020

The Guyana Chess Federation has announced the postponement of the CARIFTA Chess Championships.

The decision has been made following the recording of the first coronavirus (Covid-19) case in Guyana.

The Championships were scheduled for the Ramada Georgetown Princess Hotel from April 9 to 14.

In a statement issued to regional chess federations today, the organising committee said the Guyana Chess Federation had written the President of the Confederation of Chess for Americas and the Zonal President to inform them of its decision to postpone the Championships until the threat from the coronavirus had been alleviated.

The Barbados Chess Federation had selected an 18-member team for the Championships.
